PRR 4315, I-1SA, 1957
Description:
Decapod #4315. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Philip R. Hastings that was taken near Fassett, Pennsylvania, on 5 May 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4315, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during December of 1922, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in July of 1941, and retired in October of 1959 after 37 years of faithful service. It's pulling a southbound mixed-cargo freight train as it passes FASSETT Tower. Looks like this train has just begun to cross from one track to the other. Also note the round position-light signal. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (785-5).

Decapod #4315. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Philip R. Hastings that was taken in Leolyn, Pennsylvania, on 5 May 1957. As it's entering Leolyn, this southbound mixed-cargo freight train is slowing down so that the fireman can snare the train orders being held in the air by the railroader in the foreground.
