After its military retirement, the engine was acquired by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for continued use. In 1999, the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum (TVRM) reacquired the locomotive through a trade with SARM, bringing it back to Chattanooga, where it originally served. No photographer was listed for the photo which is now in my collection. |

USAX MRS1 #B-2083 - US Arny |
| Description: |
USAX MRS-1 #B-2083 is an ALCO (& GE) built military road switcher (MRS-1) constructed for the U.S. Army Transportation Corps (USATC) in 1953 (Alco serial #80397 & GE serial #31368). The MRS-1 class was designed as a "multi-gauge" locomotive capable of operating on nearly any track gauge worldwide to support potential Cold War combat operations. These units featured adjustable "A1A-A1A" six-axle trucks to accommodate different gauges and a narrow body profile to fit through tight international clearances. Most MRS-1 units, including the "B" series, were held in strategic storage at the Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU) in North Carolina or at the Tooele Army Depot in Utah. In the mid-to-late 1970s, the U.S. Government began selling these locomotives as surplus as they became obsolete. Current status is unknown. This is a Bill Folsom color slide which is now in my rr collection. |

WPYR 2-8-0ng #73 - White Pass & Yukon RR |
| Description: |
Rail fan Jim Lockart caught White Pass & Yukon 2-8-2 narrow gauge Mikado loco #73 sitting in the Skagway, Alaska yard. Built by Baldwin in May of 1947 as narrow guage 2-8-2 Mikado #73, the loco served the WPYR for nearly 17 years before being retired in June of 1964 and stored. After retirement on June 30, 1964, the locomotive was then moved to Bennett, British Columbia, in 1968 for static display. In 1979, the locomotive was moved again to Whitehorse, Yukon, this time to be restored to operating condition. Restoration was completed in 1982, and the locomotive has been back in service since then. As of 2010 it was the larger of two operating steam locomotives on the line. |
