Here is page eight of a 12-page camera study entitled "Horseshoe Curve Pictorial." It was published originally in the Winter 2004 issue of "Keystone" magazine, page 36. Top Photo Caption: "J-1 #6437 drifts downgrade, circa 1950." PRR engine #6437 is a J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during 1943 and retired in February of 1960. Middle Photo Caption: "I-1sa #4271 with a caboose hop, westbound, circa 1950." Photo by Bruce D. Fales. PRR engine #4271 is an I-1SA built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in October of 1944, and retired in January of 1960. Bottom Photo Caption: "Double-headed K-4's (led by #5389), eastbound, with the fireman enjoying a respite, circa 1948." Photo by Bruce D. Fales. PRR engine #5389 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during 1924 and retired in November of 1955. |
