WAB XM #91243 - Wabash RR |
| Description: |
This is a classic Wabash 40' boxcar was built in 1961 by ACF as part of the last 40' boxcars ordered before the Wabash was absorbed into the Norfolk & Western in 1964. It was painted in oxide red (Wabash boxcar red) with dreadnaught ends (rippled folds). (By the time this photo was taken, the car was part of the NW system yet hadn't been repainted yet. This order (WAB 9100-91514) was notable for being among the very last 40-foot AAR (Association of American Railroads) standard boxcars built, giving them a modern appearance for their size. This photo comes from the original negative taken by Hoosier rail fan Dick Berry which is now part of my rr collectiion. |
