The Southern Crescent  Contributor's Pick!
The passenger train tracks from Union Station go through the tunnel under First Street right behind the Capitol at the left. The freight tracks make a much wider swing behind the Capitol and to the north never needing a tunnel. The catenary is for the PRR electric freight locomotives so they can make it to the Potomac Yards and does not go through the tunnel. Pantographs would not fit. The shot was taken from L'Enfant Plaza.
