The locomotives from UP Train MASNL 09 sit at the grain elevator at Ives after hitting an articulated tractor and disk at the next crossing over at Bess. The farmer had a gash in his head, but was otherwise OK. He had never looked back into the north and seen the train coming, as most trains are northbounds. Just another reason to look both ways! The units were sideswiped by the disk, tearing most of the handrails off of the engineer's side of 4751, and half of them off 213. The crew was unhurt, as they were laying in the floor of the cab at impact which was around 10:15 this morning at a gravel road crossing protected only crossbucks. Danny Evans was there with the Poplar Bluff Wheel Truck cutting off the bent handrails and tying Caution Tape onto the sides of the engines. The power was set out and new power took the train south. |
