DRGW 4-6-0 #760 - Denver & Rio Grande Western
Typical western steam shot of Denver & Rio Grande Western 4-6-0 ten wheeler #760 with DRGW baggage/REA car #560 in front of a wooden water tank. A note on the back states "Train 229 at Woody Creek, Colo. on the Aspen Branch." Built by Alco-Brooks in November of 1908 as DRG #763, it was renumbered and named DRGW 4-6-0ng 760 in 1924. Original specs - class T-29, 67" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 21x26" cylinders, modest engine wt of 184,000 lb, and modest tractive effort of 29,093 lb. The loco was rebuilt to class T-31 and improving the tractive effort to 30,940 lb. In 1924, the loco was renamed DRGW #760. Sadly it was scrapped in 1945. This might be one of the last photos ever taken of this locomotive before the scrapper's torch dismantled it. The photographer for this photo was Robert A. Le Massena of Denver, CO.
