Caption On Reverse: "Looking over rear car of departing express west, #6432 lifts 187 cars for Pittsburgh & west. Threh diesel pushers on for Horseshoe Curve climb. Altoona Shops in background. 8/1949." Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6432, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during Septemeer of 1943 and retired in April of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service.
