Electrics. Here is a photo via Bob Lorenz that was taken at the Passenger Station in Elizabeth, New Jersey, c. 1955. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4898, a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) electric built in Juniata during May of 1940 and rated at 4,620 horsepower. In this context, it's about to pass over the Central Railroad of New Jersey tracks with a Pennsy passenger train bound for Newark and New York City. (Gift from Brad Mann.) |
