Tom Beckett General These were originally built for Virginian in 1955. When N&W merged the VGN in 1959, they soon were orphans, as the electrified part of the railroad was small, and NW implemented a directional running plan, which meant these engines would be running back to the mines lite. The were sold to the New Haven, which designated them EF 4's, and became PC units after NH was included in PC in 1969, then went to Conrail in 1976. As with the E 44's and GG 1's, they were all retired in 1981 when CR discontinued its electrified operations. 10/8/2020 3:50:27 AM
