Hollidaysburg. Here is an image of a photo by Robert Wanner that was taken in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 14 July 1956. It was published in the FaceBook group "Pennsylvania Railroad" on Thursday, 18 January 2018. Photo Caption: "L-1 Class locomotive switching the M/W Yard in Hollidaysburg, Pa. 1956. Lots of car storage in the Yard before the large [Samuel Rea] Car Shop was built. Petersburg Branch was in use at this time, but was soon abandoned." Shown here is PRR engine #633, an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during December of 1916 and retired in August of 1959 after 43 years of faithful service. [Mr. Wanner's caption is a bit confusing as a corner of the Shop ~ opened in 1955 ~ is plainly visible.] |
