LV 2-10-2 #4045 - Lehigh Valley  Contributor's Pick!
According to SteamLocomotives/com, this Santa Fe-type 2-10-2 was built by Baldwin in 1919 as a class R-1 unit but was rebuilt and renumbered in 1928-29 as a 2-8-2 #280. However, the highly detailed notes left by the unknown photographer on the protective paper sleeve states this photo was taken in November of 1950 (by a Ciroflex "B" camera set at an 7 Fstop for 1/25th sec on E-XX film and developed using DK-60a solution with an exposure of 8 sec on photopaper #3). The photographer's date and the rebuilt date do not match. Can anyone help?

Alan Fricker General Gary, this is the best I can do: The LV purchased 76 of these 2-10-2s in two orders, with the last order being delived in 1919. During 1928-29, 20 were converted to Class N6 2-8-2s, and 16 were sold to the Hocking Valley in 1922. Eighteen lasted until the end of steam on LV in 1951. The information is from Chuck Youngkurth's "Steam Era of the Leigh Valley". It does not have a roster, so I can't help you there. 1/31/2015 10:08:34 AM
