Is that a beacon/strobe light on the conductor's side of CSXT 8256? Never seen one there before!

Great shot! On CSX 2578 (a GP38-2), a yellow beacon is mounted and operates along the right side near the back of the unit. It is quite effective during the night time hours to pick up the locomotive.

The strobes are in place to also announce the presence of a Remote Controlled unit.
