B&O 4-4-4-4 #5600 - Baltimore & Ohio  Contributor's Pick!
Being the only duplex drive locomotive B&O built and used, it has a special place in railroading history. Built by the B&O shops in May, 1938, it proved unsatisfactory for a number of reasons and was eventually pulled from service in 1943. B&O expressed no further interest in duplex drives as a result.

Edward Bommer General Not really a failure, just an odd ball needing special equipment to maintain. Paved the way for PRR duplex drive locos after W II. 3/3/2014 6:21:07 PM
