Nickel Plate Road 2-8-2 #618  Contributor's Pick!
Similar to its older sister, NKP 615, this steamer was also built by Lima Locomotive Works of Ohio in 1922 as a little later class H-6d. It also had 63" drivers, and overall engine+tender wheelbase of 61.19', and an engine wt 305,400 lb. Here it's pulling a mixed freight just west of Crandall, IL, on this May day in 1943. Sadly, it was scrapped sometime between 1945-1962.
