Nickel Plate Road 2-8-2 #615  Contributor's Pick!
Barrelling down the tracks and creating a trailing cloud of impressive smoke near Dear Creek, IL, with a seemingly endless string of tankers stretching behind is Nickel Plate Road #615. Built by Lima Locomotive Works of Ohio in 1920 as a class H-6b, it had 63" drivers, an overall engine+tender wheelbase of 61.19', and an engine wt 305,400 lb. Wish I could credit the photograhper for this beautiful action shot but none was listed. Sadly, it was scrapped sometime between 1945-1962.
