Former ACL trackage
About 4 miles of former ACL trackage at the end of the Abbeville AL branch has been taken up. This line is now operated by the Bayline, A GWI unit. The last customer in Abbeville was a chip mill that shipped out a car or two of chips a week. They closed several years ago and no industry has located on this portion of the line. The chip mill just outside of town is still very active and sees service Monday through Friday and sometimes on the weekends.

Charles Burgess General Always a sad site to see. 10/15/2011 10:54:11 AM
Bernie Feltman General The part that Bryan isn't sharing is that only a few short years ago, there was a team track with a loading dock, a huge pulpwood yard, a wye at the end of the line in downtown Abbeville and a huge West Point Pepperell plant along this stretch of track. In fact, AFTER the line stopped seeing regular service, your federal government funded crossing signals for a "dead" crossing next to the Pepperell plant. 10/29/2011 7:53:39 PM
David Barrentine General A sad site indeed! 10/31/2011 12:38:45 PM
