IC 4022 City of New Orleans #4
At the time of the accident, 3 cars loaded with feed were being unloaded on the house track. The truck's cargo tank was thrown into the cars & engulfed with flames & smoke. Five people who were unloading the cars were killed & two others injured.

Yes, Jordan it is sad that so many people had to die because the driver of the truck did not stop at the crossing.

Yeah, you are right Ron. The gas truck had 1,545 gallons of gasoline, 500 gallons of diesel fuel, 9 cases of motor oil, & a 55 gallon drum of mineral spirits on board.

the truck drivers wife was across the street getting her hair done when it happened. she was pregnant. she sued icrr for not having lights and gates. you can see a long way south and north. the track is straight there.

witnesses said Jimmy Livinston the engineer was blowing the hell out of the horn. he was breaking and they said the train was almost stopped. i would see the City come through there at times and my grandad said it would run about 90 mph through there.

my grandad had a farm off gilsburg rd and could go there at times for stuff. he wasnt there that day but could have ben and would have probably ben killed.

Jeff, It was awful about the wreck, but his wife being across the street was worse.
