ATW 109 (Original Version)  Contributor's Pick!
A cropped version of this photo appears here http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=242713&nseq=0 I thought there was a bit too much sky and the focus seemed to be more on the junkyard than the train so I tightened the margain some to make sure that the focus was on the train. I'm posting this one here because this is my best photo ever and I want it as my cover page photo and also because focusing on the junk yard still makes for an interesting shot as well - kind of like this is the Atlantic Western Railroad and this is what it does. This is actually the benefit to being an incompetent photographer - I snapped this picture too soon and ended up with a better, more interesting shot. I'll also leave it up to the viewer whether they prefer the cropped or uncropped version. And yes, the colors/image are completely untouched, it really was this pretty that day. It was also very shocking to see this train here - it was President's Day, a federal holliday, so it was a bit of a surprise that the ATW was working

Zachary DeVore General Proof that you sometimes miss stuff in your own photos - its been over two years and just now putting this back as my front page photo I noticed that while its running LHF, there are no ditchlights on that side (there are ditchlights on the other side). I guess that the ATW doesn't operate fast enough to require them. This was right by a major crossing (US 421) though, so I thought that with a crossing of a US Highway they would require ditch lights even though they don't operate very fast. The crossing is well protected (lights, gates, horn), but there is a small section of street running right on the other side. 3/21/2010 9:28:57 PM
