After over a decade of trying, Hunter Harrison was finally able to pass his hourly agreement with train crews and things would be harder for the effected employees from here on out. No more 8 hour work days, work rules, or brakemen on every switching job. Hunter even managed to get rid of old agreements requiring a certain number of assignments at each terminal. Grenada went from having 4 jobs to 3 when the contract went into effect and this was the last day that the evening switcher was on. Some employees that worked out of Grenada and Water Valley for over 30 years had to find work at other locations. Pictured is brakeman Fred Goff. |
