BNSF #30 GLACIER VIEW |
Description: |
Built in 1955 by Budd in Lot #9679-155 as GN full dome lounge #1390 GLACIER VIEW, 1 of 6 such domes (#1390-#1395) built in that Lot for the 1955 EMPIRE BUILDER, which was ordered in February 1954; cars were delivered between August and October 1955. These Great Domes, in GN parlance, had 57 chairs and 18 lounge seats in the dome with a 34 seat club lounge on the lower level; one of the chairs was later removed to make room for a radio & tape cabinet. #1390-#1394 were owned by GN and #1395 was owned by CB&Q. In 1971, Amtrak acquired these 6 domes as #9360-#9365, the #1390 as #9360. The #9360 was retired in April 1981 and traded to BN in 1983 as #A24, with the addition of a track inspection theater. For more info, see Phil Dohmen's website: http://www.trainweb.org/web_lurker/GNf/ and W. David Randall's "Streamliner Cars Volume 2". Photographed from the SB #11 COAST STARLIGHT.
