Title:  CNW 4-8-4 #3024 - Chicago & North Western
Description:  On display at the 1934 World's Fair held in Chicago, this must have made a powerful impression from its massive size alone. Built by Baldwin in 1929 as an H class loco, it had 76" drivers, created an impressive 250 psi boiler pressure, and generated a 65,225 lb tractive force. After serving as a model display here, it went into heavy usage, rebuilt several times and finally scrapped sometime between 1950-56. Warren W. McCleary Jr photo

CNW 4-8-4 #3034 - Chicago & North Western
Title:  CNW 4-8-4 #3034 - Chicago & North Western
Description:  Although a later SD40 would carry this number, this Northern type locomotive was the first. A heavy hauler with 76" drivers and a whopping 250 psi boiler pressure, these locos started replacing double headed 4-6-2's. This is a Robert M. Hanft photo. Unfortunately no information was recorded on the back so the location and date have been set arbitrarily.
