Two Southern warriors put out to the pasture |
Description: |
Under leaden skys that dull the color of even the fall trees, these two old engines wait for restoration. The Southern 6914 is currently undergoing restoration but the ex-CofG 109 sadly is still sitting out in the elements decaying. |

Date Unknown. Notice the two EMD trailing units. This is unusual for the Central, as they liked to use F3s on the front of freight moves, as the crews liked the cab units better. |

Description: |
On the morning of 12/26/1964, a wash out occurred near Dennis on the Central of Georgia Eatonton District. A storm on Christmas night overwhelmed a pipe, and it washed out the track. My knowlege of this wreck comes from an article the conductor of this train (whom was riding in the caboose at the time), Tommy Tinker, whom wrote an article in the Right Way Magazine on the subject. The caboose is X61, which was riding behind the locomotive. |

Dothan district local |
Description: |
The Dothan district local is seen at Albany GA enroute to Dothan AL with a coach being used as a spacer car due to weight restrictions over the Chattahoochee River which prohibited locomotives being operated over it couple together. The date is approximate but it should have been in the mid to late 1960's since the locomotives are in the Southern "tuxedo" scheme. Southern acquired the Central of Georgia in 1963 and began painting the CofG's locomotives in the Southern "tuxedo" style while lettering them for the CofG. In the late 1960's the paper mill in Cedar Springs underwent an expansion and the increased business resulted in trios of EMD's being used on the Dothan district. The spacer coach was also replaced at this time by spacer boxcars. For a view of the Dothan district local using EMD's and boxcars as spacers see: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1010597 |
