Southern train #167 |
Description: |
Southern 211 was an ex-CofG GP35. I have been told that a quick way to determine if a Southern unit was ex-CofG or ex-Southern was that ex-CofG units were set up to run short hood forward while ex-Southern units were set up to run long hood forward. Note the small block near the end of the short hood end of the frame on the 211 indicating the forward end. I am told this means of identification applies to Southern/CofG GP7's as well |

Locomotive track |
Description: |
This is the old locomotive servicing facility in Eufaula AL. The track in the foreground is the old E&O (Eufaula and Ozark RR) Mainline. Going right in the picture goes toward Clayton/Ozark. Going left takes you by the old freight depot. Euaula had 5 house tracks or at least 5 tracks that were considered house tracks. As this track passes the depot it becomes house #5. Past the depot just before tying into the Montgomery line was were the scales were located on house #5. In the background just in front of the white house is the mainline that goes toward Albany (to the right). Both lines join together just beyond the depot and continue to Montgomery. There is actually a line that comes off the Albany mainline that connects to the Ozark Mainline that creates a wye. The locomotive facility actually sits inside this wye. |

Looking south |
Description: |
We are looking south (west according to the old CofG) along the Southern (ex CofG) mainlines at Ft Valley. The three tracks seen are, from the left, the pass, the eastbound mainline, and the westbound mainline furthest to the right. Seen on the right, blocking the view of the legs of the water tank, is the old passenger station. Next is the old interlocking tower that controlled the junction of the 4 CofG lines that came together at Ft Valley. On the left in the background is the old freight station that was still in service at the time of this pic. Note the train order boards. Just beyond the freight depot is where the lines split with one going to Columbus and the other to Albany. |
