Album Info:Union Pacific's Sunset Route runs through the southern part of Arizona, with branches running north to Phoenix and south to Nogales. The tracks enter the state in Yuma, and head almost due east to Maricopa, south of Phoenix. Excluding California, Maricopa is the northernmost point of the line. From Maricopa, the line runs south, joining with a line to Phoenix in Eloy, and a line to Nogales in Tucson. There is a yard in southwest Tucson, switching cars for trains to Nogales and to Phoenix. Tucson is also the end of the Gila Sub, with the Lordsburg Sub beginning just east of the yard. The rest of the run from Tucson to the border and Steins is home to several spurs branching from the mainline.

Union Pacific 1654
Title:  Union Pacific 1654
Description:  UP 1654 drillls the yard as the sun sets on the mountains in Tucson. 1654 was built in 1980 for UP as the 3761. This unit was one of the Safety Slogan units. with UPs iconic slogans featured prominently on the engineers side of the engine. These were removed by the 1990s, and in the early 2010s the unit was withdrawn, rebuilt with new electronics into an SD40N, and renumbered to 1654. Since its rebuild, it has served mostly in Nevada and Arizona in various switching jos.

Description:  SD70M 3867 is second unit on a yard job drilling the west end of Tucson Yard. 3867 was built by EMD in 2004, and was one of over 1400 units UP ordered in 2000. To fulfill this oder, EMD distributed the work to the General Motors plant in London, Ontario, Bombardier in Sahagun, Mexico, and SuperSteel in New York. 3867 was part of a batch of 51 units (3823-3873) assembled by Bombardier in Mexico in mid-2004.

Title:  UP 5272
Description:  UP 5272 is an C45ACCTE leading an eastbound stack train along the Sunset Route north of Marana. 5272 was built by GE in March of 2006. In May of that year, the unit made an appearance at Franklin Park, Illinois, along with MoPac heritage unit 1982, a CSX ES44DC, an Indiana Harbor Belt Geep, a Belt Railway of Chicago SW1500, Illinois Central E9 101, a CP ES44, a Metra MP36, and an Amtrak P42. Today, 5272 is leading another unusual locomotive; a three-year old SD70AH-T4. These units are essentially SD70ACe units with a Tier 4-compliant EMD 1010 prime mover.

Description:  Union Pacific 958500 idles on the UP Sunset Route mainline east of Eloy. 958500 is one of a handful of SD40-2s rebuilt by Relco in the mid-late 2020s. These units serve as power cars on UPs maintenance trains. 958500 was rebuilt in May of 2020.
